Types of Memberships

We have the best instructors

Regular Membership

The regular membership shall consist of Jefferson County residents and/or persons representing agencies serving Jefferson County, more than half of whom shall be people aged 60 and over. The membership should represent the cultural/ethnic groups within the county. Regular members are entitled to all the privileges and responsibilities of the Council.

Auxiliary Membership

Auxiliary memberships shall consist of Jefferson County residents and/or persons representing agencies serving Jefferson County interested in the well-being of older adults. These members shall be entitled to all the privileges and responsibilities of the Council. Auxiliary members shall be given priority when a regular membership is open.

Honorary Membership

Honorary membership may be conferred upon an individual in recognition of special achievement by a majority vote of members present at a regular Council meeting. Honorary members are entitled to all privileges of the Council.

Resource Membership

Resource Memberships shall consist of Jefferson County residents and/or persons providing services in Jefferson County and/or persons who have special knowledge or experience in aging issues that would be valuable to the council. However, because of time constraints they are unable to meet the attendance and committee requirements of regular or auxiliary members. These members shall be entitled to all the privileges and responsibilities of the Council except those of voting and holding elected offices and meeting attendance requirements.

Standing Committees

Legislative Committee

The purpose of Legislative Committee shall be to monitor legislation, i.e., national, state, and local and provide feedback to the County Council.

  • monitor local, state and federal legislative issues of concern to the aging population, and keep the Council informed. After discussion and direction from the Council, the Committee shall act accordingly;

  • participate in producing an Annual Report

  • all communication, written or oral presenting the Councils’ position, shall be pre approved by the Council.

  • shall encourage members to participate in other organizations such as Colorado Senior Lobby, Area Agency on Aging, AARP, and Older Americans Coalition of Colorado.

Marketing and Public Information Commission

The purpose of the Marketing and Public Information Commission shall be to promote the council, its events and public hearings, to publish hearing results, provide and distribute information of interest to older adults, and to inform the public in Jefferson County on positions the Council takes on issues that affect older adult residents.

The Marketing and Public Information Chairperson and/or Co-Chairpersons shall participate and direct the Committee to:

  • inform the community and metropolitan region of the needs, problems, and contributions of older adults in Jefferson County

  • direct the committee members to make every effort to communicate with the media
  • direct the committee to maintain and update a Speakers Bureau when deemed appropriate

  • initiate/direct the writing of PSA’s about activities and contributions of the Council

  • participate in production, i.e. editing and printing an Annual Report

  • be responsible for producing and printing the JCCoA brochure

  • direct the committee in the preparation, editing and printing of the Council’s Annual Report

  • be responsible for producing and printing the JCCoA brochure.

  • direct the committee to maintain an up-to-date mailing list of appropriate agencies, groups and local government officials;

  • direct the conducting of an annual meeting for service providers to give information received from annual public meeting(s) and/or needs survey;

Needs Assessment Committee

The purpose of the Needs Assessment Committee shall be to: obtain information regarding the concerns of older adults and their priorities by conducting public needs assessments and coordinate with other communities to identify ways in which the needs can be met.

The Needs Assessment Chairperson and/or Co-Chairpersons shall participate and direct the Committee to:

  • direct the identification and assessment of:

  • needs of residents 60 years and older;
  • needs of isolated and disconnected population over 60 years;

  • trends within society which impact older adults and their families.

  • participate in producing an Annual Report;

  • direct the committee to prepare and publish a report on the results of the needs assessment.

  • coordinate reviews of Title Ill grant proposals and report to DRCOG.

Membership Committee

The purpose of the Membership Committee shall be to ensure effective and diverse representation of the older adult population in Jefferson County.

The Membership Chairperson and/or Co-Chairpersons shall participate and direct the Committee to:

  • maintain membership roster that includes excused and unexcused absences, committee members, chairs and co-chairs, officers, and organizations represented

  • prepare materials for new members and conduct an orientation meeting for new members as needed;
  • supply new members with orientation materials on Council operation;

  • recruit new members by reviewing all local senior organizations, groups interested in older adults, and the ethnic balance within the county;

  • participate in producing an Annual Report.

Program Committee

The purpose of the Program Committee shall be to schedule a presentation at regular meetings that inform and educate the Council on issues pertinent to older adults in Jefferson County.

The Program Chairperson and/or Co-Chairpersons shall participate and direct the Committee to:

  • research sources and recommend pertinent programs to the Executive Committee;

  • arrange presenters for regular meetings throughout the year excluding December (installation of officers) and the month of the Annual Retreat meeting;
  • send all correspondence required to present programs, including the thanks of the Council for the presentation;

  • participate in producing an Annual Report.

  • seek council member’s views on program subject matter.

Special Events Committee

The purpose of the Special Events Committee shall be to assure effective accomplishment of special events approved by the council.

Special Events Committee Chairperson and/or Co-Chairpersons shall:
chair the Special Events Committee;

  • coordinate with other committee chairpersons to obtain information and assistance;

  • develop agendas for special events approved by the council;
  • arrange for event facilities and program;

  • arrange for promotion of the event;

  • coordinate provision of refreshments for the event in required

  • participate in producing an Annual Report;

Retreat Committee

The Retreat Committee Chairperson and/or Co-Chairpersons or shall:

  • chair the Retreat Committee;

  • appoint retreat committee members in October;
  • arrange for meeting facility;

  • arrange for facilitator, if needed;

  • develop outline for retreat.

  • coordinate food for retreat
